PLANKA

PLANKA is a web-based Kanban application for team projects. You can organize tasks on boards with lists and cards, edit them together in real time and add comments, attachments, checklists and due dates.

The actively maintained Community version can be self-hosted and is built with JavaScript, Node.js, React and PostgreSQL. It is licensed under the restrictive PLANKA Community License and is source-available, not open source. The Community version does not include SSO.

Proprietary Pro & Enterprise Editions

The Pro and Enterprise editions add OIDC SSO, guest and additional work roles, calendar, timeline and map views, templates, global search and PDF exports, among other features. They are available for self-hosting and as hosted offerings. Enterprise mainly adds scaling and support services. The free Community license is not open either, but it has a different feature set and different terms than Pro and Enterprise.

Components marked as Pro/Enterprise are excluded from the Community license. For production use, the PLANKA Pro/Enterprise License requires a valid license for the respective use. Copying and modifying them for development and testing is allowed without a subscription. Regular access covers only precompiled versions. Access to their source code requires a separate agreement, and distributing them to unauthorized third parties is prohibited without written permission.

License Restrictions

The PLANKA Community License is a source-available license, not an open-source license. It allows internal use within your own organization, personal and educational purposes and private hosting for a typical circle of friends and family members, among other things. Further exceptions apply to recognized nonprofit organizations and public educational institutions in academia or research.

The Community license prohibits sharing account access with third parties for business purposes and hosting for third parties with direct or indirect commercial benefit. Other hosting offerings or sharing accounts across organizations require a commercial license. License and copyright notices must remain intact, and when you distribute the software, you must include the license terms and notes on your own changes.
