Matomo is an open-source web analytics platform for visitor statistics, campaigns, and conversions. It focuses on privacy and on keeping control of your own analytics data.
You can self-host Matomo or use it as a paid cloud service. The actively maintained core software is licensed under GPL v3 or any later version and uses PHP with MySQL or MariaDB.

Proprietary Premium Plugins
The premium plugins add features such as heatmaps and session recordings, funnels, and additional analytics tools to the open core. The vendor explicitly distinguishes these plugins from its open extensions. Which of them a cloud plan or a self-hosting bundle includes depends on the respective offering.
In its premium plugin license information, Matomo explains that these plugins are not released under an open-source-compatible license and must not be redistributed. Modifications require permission from the respective developers. The GPL-licensed Matomo core and explicitly open plugins are not affected.
