Papermark

Papermark's open-source core shares documents via links and combines sharing with usage analytics. Custom domains and branding support document exchange.

The actively maintained base can be self-hosted and is licensed under AGPL-3.0. It uses TypeScript and PostgreSQL. The open-source core does not include all features of the full hosted offering.

Source-Available Enterprise Features

The Enterprise README explicitly assigns data rooms, Q&A conversations, and advanced permissions to the separately licensed enterprise features. For this reason, the AGPL base is listed here under file sharing and not under virtual data rooms. According to the vendor's page, further enterprise offerings include SSO, full white-labeling, and dedicated support.

A SaaS plan's name, such as «Free» or «Data Rooms», says nothing on its own about the license of its features. For self-hosting these additional components, their separate license applies.

The main license assigns the publicly viewable directories ee and app/(ee) to the non-open «Commercial License». Its license text contains exceptions, for client-side code and assets among others, which it assigns to AGPL-3.0. The open-source core remains available for commercial use under AGPL-3.0.

For the components that are actually licensed as proprietary, the Commercial License requires an agreement with Papermark and a valid Enterprise subscription for production use. Copying and modifying them for development and testing is allowed without a subscription. Distribution, sublicensing, and selling are not generally permitted. Modifications to these components may also only be used under a valid subscription for the appropriate number of hosts.
