Special Characteristics
The OpenCloud backend uses no relational database and stores its data in the file system instead. With the default PosixFS storage driver, OpenCloud stores additional metadata in the extended attributes of each file. If this metadata is too large for the file system, OpenCloud automatically moves it to a separate metadata file and keeps only a reference to it in the extended attributes.
Software Features
Team Spaces
Shared workspaces bring together files, folders, and permissions for teams and projects. Content stays with the space when members leave the team.
Versioning & Recovery
OpenCloud keeps earlier file versions and lets you restore older versions as well as deleted files and folders.
Full-Text & Metadata Search
The built-in search finds files by their content and metadata. Results can be filtered by type and modification date, among other criteria.
Sync & Offline Access
Desktop and mobile clients sync files between devices and make selected content available without a network connection.
Internal & External Sharing
Files and folders can be shared internally with people, groups, and spaces, and externally via password-protected links.
Web Office
By connecting a separate Collabora server, teams can edit office documents together in the browser. Its edition, hosting, and license need to be checked independently of the OpenCloud core.
File Preview & Document Scanning
OpenCloud shows previews of documents, images, videos, and audio files. The mobile apps can scan paper documents and save them as PDFs.
Federation
The Open Cloud Mesh protocol connects OpenCloud installations and compatible systems for file sharing across locations.
