NocoDB

NocoDB is a no-code database with a spreadsheet-like interface for managing structured data together. The Community Edition offers relational links, formulas, and forms, as well as grid, Kanban, calendar, and gallery views.

The actively maintained Community Edition can be self-hosted and uses TypeScript, Node.js, and Vue.js. It is licensed under the Sustainable Use License and, according to the license documentation, follows the Fair Code model, but it is not open source. According to the edition comparison, SSO is not included in the Community Edition.

MCP Server

The official MCP server is also available in the Community Edition. There, AI applications connect to a project through a connection URL and a token and can query and edit records. The non-open license of the Community Edition also applies to this implementation.

NocoDB Cloud and paid self-hosted licenses additionally offer OAuth sign-in and tools for tables, fields, views, workflows, and permissions. The exact access depends on the edition, plan, and connection configuration.

For self-hosting, NocoDB offers the Business, Scale, and Enterprise editions. Business adds SSO, table- and field-level permissions, and teams, among other features. Scale also includes audit logs and access rules for individual records. Enterprise adds SCIM and air-gapped installations without internet access, among other features. Activating a paid self-hosted installation requires PostgreSQL.

The edition comparison describes features and costs, but it does not prove that all additional features fall under the Sustainable Use License of the public repository. The license status of these additions, including SSO, is therefore not clearly settled. This page does not present these additions as part of the Fair Code base. For SSO, the license classification remains open.

NocoDB Cloud is a separate hosted offering with free and paid plans. Purchased plans are subject to the terms of service and, where applicable, separate contract terms. A cloud plan does not grant open-source rights to the code it runs.

Alternative Licensing

For offering NocoDB as a hosted service, reselling it, or giving external customers direct access, the license documentation refers to a separate license agreement. These rights must be agreed with the vendor and do not follow from the Sustainable Use License.

License Restrictions

The Sustainable Use License 1.0 is not an open-source license. It permits use and modification for your own internal business purposes and for non-commercial or personal purposes. Distributing the software or making it available to others is only permitted free of charge and for non-commercial purposes. A paid hosted service is not covered.

License, copyright, and other notices from the licensor may not be changed, removed, or obscured. When distributing the software, you must include the license terms and clearly mark your own changes.
