OrangeHRM Starter helps manage employee data, leave, working time, job applications, and performance reviews.

The published Starter code includes separate modules for clocking in and out and project-based timesheets. This means the base version covers both employee time tracking and project time tracking.

The actively maintained Starter version is built with PHP, licensed under GPL-3.0, and can be self-hosted. OpenID Connect is included in this base version.

Proprietary Advanced Edition

The Advanced edition adds onboarding, shift scheduling, training, additional reports, and authentication options, among others. It is available for self-hosting and as SaaS and is subject to a proprietary license.

For Advanced, OrangeHRM documents an MCP connector for external AI assistants. It is restricted to administrators and uses an MCP endpoint provided by the vendor. This documentation does not show that the connector is available for the GPL-licensed Starter.

The published OrangeHRM Commercial License limits installation to one server copy per purchased annual license. Among other things, it prohibits distributing, renting, and modifying the proprietary software as well as using it as a service platform for third parties. These restrictions do not apply to the GPL-licensed Starter code.
