Open WebUI

Open WebUI brings AI conversations, document knowledge, and tools together in one interface. The application supports local language models via Ollama and external models via compatible APIs, and lets teams build specialized assistants.

The actively maintained, self-hostable application is built with Python, TypeScript, and Svelte and offers SSO in the free base version. It is licensed under the restrictive Open WebUI License and is source-available, not open source.

Enterprise Offering

The Enterprise offering adds support, contractual commitments, and additional license options, among other things. An explicitly agreed Enterprise license can allow changes to the branding. This is a difference in the rights granted. It does not show that basic SSO or the generally documented scalability are reserved exclusively for a paid edition.

License Restrictions

The Open WebUI License is a restrictive source-available license and not an open-source license.

The license prohibits altering, removing, obscuring, or replacing the Open WebUI branding. Exceptions apply to deployments with no more than 50 end users within a rolling 30-day period, with prior written permission, or with an Enterprise license that explicitly allows such changes.
