Codex CLI

Codex CLI is OpenAI's open-source AI coding agent for the terminal. It analyzes local project files, implements changes, runs commands, and can be integrated into scripts and CI pipelines for recurring tasks.

The actively maintained CLI is written in Rust, licensed under Apache-2.0, and runs on your own computer or your own infrastructure. The separately offered desktop app is not part of this open-source entry.

Access to OpenAI models requires a ChatGPT account or an API key billed by usage. Alternatively, you can configure other model providers and local models.
